A Major Mattress Brand

I took a connected ice maker from an open question to an app ready for development.

A luxury home appliance brand came to us with a new piece of hardware and an open question: what should the app that controls it actually do? There was no feature list and no shared picture of the person it was for.

The Results: I ran the user interviews and facilitated the design thinking workshop that turned all of that into a prioritized set of features, then designed the app itself.

The Challenge

The hardware for a customizing and controlling this ice-maker was already in motion, but the app it needed had not been defined yet.

The brand knew they wanted the ice maker to be connected, but they were unsure what connected should mean for the person standing in their kitchen. Engineering had a list of what the machine could report, but nobody had asked what an owner of the appliance would open the app to do.

My job was to close that gap before a single screen got designed.

Design Phase

Then I facilitated a design thinking workshop with stakeholders across product, engineering, and marketing to capture their goals, hopes, concerns, and hard requirements in one place.

Sleep supported conversation flows

AI Supported Marketplace

The Solution

A calming, personalized opening experience, with real-time feedback, AI-interpreted sleep data, and personalized product recommendations.

The app gives users a calming, personalized opening experience with prompts. It provides real-time feedback offered problem-solving and support to help with sleep.

I reduced returns by creating a better size guide experience.

See Work

I reduced bounce rates and increased AOV by 7% with a Shopify redesign.

See Work

I ran 4 user interviews with owners to understand they actually use the ice maker, and discovered a few things.

To get there, I focused the AI concept on three design strategies.

The Challenge

Marketplace

How can we connect adults to relevant sleep products and services?

Data Interpretation

How might we help adults understand their sleep tracking information?

Real-time Feedback and Help

How might we provide relevant sleep information in real time to help them fall asleep?
